You can use animated elements but for the grid app we will be using today the complete image needs to be saved as a picture, not video so they will not move. The “Slay” I used in the original image moves. Type in Animated under elements and you can find cool moving texts and icons. Just FYI Canva now has these cool animated elements that are great for Instagram. We will then move the square, adjust the size, and change the position behind to create a frame with a pop of color. Then grabbed a square under the Elements tab. Chose a pour-over coffee image this time. I searched for morning images under the Photos tab. Later I will show you some template ideas using frames but for this image, I just added my photos straight and resized them to fit where I wanted for my Instagram Puzzle Grid.
You could add lines and evenly space them to divide and then delete them later but I chose to just visualize the 9 squares and adjust as needed. With this white square, we can add our elements. I’m currently using the desktop version here to demonstrate. I was able to create this grid both ways. But you can work on the desktop version or the app. Note: I find it easier to work on Canva via the desktop and then transfer the picture to my phone. You can change the background color but I left mine white. For the first step, we will create the grid as a complete picture. We will be breaking it up into the individual squares a little later. We want it pretty large because it is going to cover your whole screen. You can change the ratio for more pictures but for now, let’s keep it a square for simplicity. 1080 is the width of a single Instagram post so we are doing 3 times that to be 3 down and 3 across.
